Setting the stage for Sage Manor

Sandusky Register - Andy Ouriel

SANDUSKY — They appreciate all the investments happening in and around Sandusky, especially downtown. “And we want to continue that and be a part of this momentum,” Page Warner said. “That’s why we are branching out and taking on this project.”

Warner referenced the massive transformation she and her husband, Scot Mayhorne, are undertaking to modernize a 102-year-old home into a lodge. It’s located at 910 W. Washington St. (U.S. 6).

Converted from apartments, the Perkins Township spouses in February began to completely gut the historic home, establishing four units within this three-story, 5,000-square-foot space. Each bookable space will offer at least one bedroom, a full bathroom, full kitchen and living room.

They pegged their investment at about $100,000.

Once completed, likely around June, people can visit travel-lodging sites, like Airbnb, to rent out a room within Sage Manor. The name combines Scot's and Page's first names.

“The bones of this place really are great,” said Warner, who works as a student services coordinator for Fremont Schools and also as a realtor with Realty Executives in Sandusky. “It just needed a touch-up.”

With her real estate background, Warner believes the demand created by vacationers to Sandusky necessitates for places like Sage Manor.

“People really like staying in these places, and, around here, there aren't too many places like this," Warner said.

Mayhorne, a carpenter for Telamon Construction in Sandusky, wholeheartedly agrees.

“Especially right here, you have a lot of bonuses,” Mayhorne said about the area. “You are two blocks from downtown and the water. You have local businesses, like a diner and hardware store, right the corner. You really are close to everything.”

When finished, the couple hopes people check out — and check into — the property.

“We have this beautiful century-old home that we are bringing back to life as close as we can," Warner said. "We want people to appreciate the historic side of Sandusky, by visiting the city and our property. But, when inside their rooms, they can enjoy all of the modern-day amenities that will keep them comfortable during their stay.”
